Topic description
The topic covers the human organ systems in detail (in particular, the integumentary, musculoskeletal, endocrine, nervous, cardiovascular, renal, gastro-intestinal, respiratory and reproductive systems). In addition some chemical and physical science principles applied to the body are introduced where appropriate. This topic will provide the student with a strong general background knowledge of both anatomy and physiology.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to introduce the student to the basic anatomy and physiology of the healthy human body.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Identify and describe gross anatomical structures in the human body systems using appropriate scientific terminology
  2. Demonstrate understanding of basic normal physiology of body systems
  3. Apply the understanding of physical science to applicable body systems
  4. Demonstrate concise scientific communication skills in the areas of anatomy and physiology
  5. Record, analyse and present the results from performing practical laboratory exercises.
