Topic description

This topic will explore the ethical and legal principles that guide professional nursing practice and the role of the Registered Nurse.

Educational aims

This topic aims to develop critical thinking skills that support ethical and legal reasoning about practice and allow students to cultivate professional conduct that is ethically and legally defensible.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Apply an integrated, practical framework for understanding ethical and legal dimensions to their professional practice
  2. Evaluate the needs of a variety of vulnerable groups for whom health care is provided
  3. Develop personal perspectives on ethical and legal issues that relate to duty of care within ethical and legal frameworks
  4. Critically analyse significant contemporary ethical and legal issues in professional practice
