Admission into BCADR-Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama)

This topic continues to lay the foundations for the performer's physical and vocal techniques and introduces the basic naturalistic acting skills required in theatre and television.

This topic aims to:

equip students with the skills necessary for eventual employment as actors and directors in the theatre, television, and film industries
encourage all students to work as both interpretive and conceptual artists
develop a historical knowledge and theoretical understanding of their chosen art-form through enrolment in the first-year drama theory course
provide a basic understanding of vocal, physical, and imaginative techniques that under pin the core performance training offered in the Drama Centre

Upon completing this topic, students will have:

demonstrated an understanding of performance and directing techniques as they are currently employed within the theatre, television, and film industries
further developed their basic understanding of the vocal, physical, emotional, and interpretive skills required by professional actors, such as:
- understanding of thought processes and inner speech techniques that underpin dialogue
- development of spontaneity and improvisation skills
- improvement in physical expressive confidence, knowledge and skill (the ability to manipulate space, weight, time and flow)
- the facility to control basic vocal functioning for live performance and an introduction to basic singing techniques
demonstrated a deeper understanding of the technical nature of theatre production in particular lighting, sound, and set building
