Topic description
This topic introduces students to university study, and assists them to develop the necessary skills to succeed in the Bachelor of Midwifery program.
Educational aims
This aim of this topic is to assist students to develop the knowledge, academic skills and attitudes necessary to succeed in the Bachelor of Midwifery program.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Construct a foundational level of knowledge, attitudes and skills required to be a successful midwifery student

  2. Develop foundational skills of reflective practice

  3. Make use of interpersonal communication and be able to apply theory and skills of communication to midwifery woman centred care

  4. Integrate research and theory into foundational midwifery evidence-based practice

  5. Identify the various research methodologies which can be used to contribute to the midwifery body of knowledge.
