Topic description

This topic is designed to provide Drama Centre students with experience in theatre, television and film production. All students are required to take part in a major production.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Develop an understanding of professional rehearsal techniques and practice
  • Introduce students to the foundations of ensemble skills
  • Introduce students to both conceptual and interpretive artists
  • Provide students with an introduction to the concepts theatrical imagination
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Effectively use professional rehearsal techniques and practice to develop a performance at a beginner level
  2. Source costumes and props, operate lights and sound for a theatre show
  3. Work as part of an ensemble at a beginner level
  4. Enunciate, discuss and evaluate ideas in a group situation at a beginner level
  5. Apply acting methodology, voice and movement techniques to the requirements of a live or electronic performance at a beginner level
  6. Convey ideas, character, situation, emotion, relationship and story to an audience or the camera as directed at a beginner level
  7. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Effectively use professional rehearsal techniques and practice to develop a live or electronic performance at a beginner level
  8. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Stage and production manage a small scale theatre show
  9. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Create an ensemble at a beginning level
  10. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Enunciate, discuss and evaluate ideas in a group situation at a beginner level
  11. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Apply directing, dramaturgy and design methodology to create a live or electronic performance at a beginner level
  12. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Direct actors to convey ideas, character, situation, emotion, relationship and story to the camera or an audience at a beginner level
  13. DIRECTING STUDENTS: Demonstrate basic skills in camera operation and editing (optional)
