Topic description

This topic introduces students to the basic skills and conceptual development of screen production. Students will work as individuals and in groups on production assignments and exercises to examine and explore production techniques, crewing and creative problem solving in camera, lighting and sound operation and in non-linear editing.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to camera, lighting, and sound recording equipment and techniques
  • Introduce students to non-linear editing techniques and organisation of media files
  • Provide students with opportunities to develop screen production skills through group activities and assignments
  • Provide students with opportunities to collaborate creatively and problem solve with their peers
  • Give students a basic overall awareness of the production and post production process
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate basic skills in camera, lighting and sound recording techniques
  2. Demonstrate basic skills in editing techniques and organisation of media files
