ePortfolio reflection, VET units of competency
Topic description
The topic provides students with the opportunity to undertake VET Units of Competence relevant to design for manufacture. Where alternative Units of Competence are identified as relevant to their role students may seek to undertake these as part of this topic.

Such inclusions must be specified in the student’s Learning Plan and approved by the Topic Coordinator (in conjunction with the RTO).

This topic includes:

  • Developing and configuring web services for microcontroller-based devices

  • Networking these devices in an integrated system.
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge included in the following Vocational Education and Training (VET) Units of Competence:

  • UEENEED110A Set up, create and implement content for a web server

  • UEENEED101A Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace (PR)

  • Other Units as identified and approved as part of the student’s Learning Plan.

On completion of these units, students will have the skill sets to perform the following tasks:

  • Develop a microcontroller-based edge device in an Industry 4.0 system

  • Plan, design, implement and test a sensor device which can be attached to an industrial system

  • Network the sensor device into an existing system and extract data for further analysis

  • Design and implement a prototype in an Industry 4.0 system.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Apply structured programming techniques to control microcontroller-based devices

  2. Understand and apply OHS practices

  3. Use software tools for web-based embedded system design

  4. Understand how to integrate an embedded device into an Industry 4.0 system

  5. Apply web services in the context of data gathering

  6. Understand the nature of embedded hardware used in an Industry 4.0 system
