THEO1507 Introduction to Pastoral Care

This topic introduces the art of pastoral care. Theological and ethical issues of care will be explored. Pastoral listening, non-anxious presence, reflection, exploration and prayer will be studied and practiced throughout the class.

This topic aims to:

• Familiarise students with theological, ethical and personal attributes fundamental to pastoral care
• Provide students with a variety of opportunities for reflection and practice of pastoral care
• Offer a safe environment for exploring and developing students' theological framework of care

1. Define and apply pastoral skill in conversations of care
2. Identify and explore ethical issues in pastoral practice
3. Demonstrate ethical pastoral practice including appropriate assessment and referral options
4. Construct a theological framework for pastoral practice
