This is a Work-Integrated Learning topic designed to give students in the Bachelor of Arts Enhanced Program for High Achievers the opportunity to develop some work-ready skills specific to the major(s) they are studying in the B.A. award, or the opportunity to study abroad and extend the experience of their major studies. Students will choose, subject to eligibility, from three options:

Work Placement in a workplace related to a student's major sequence of study, or
Supervised Internship, such as the Washington Internship Program or the South Australian Parliamentary Internship, or
Study Abroad option, selected from the list of participating universities in the Flinders University Study Abroad Program.
The above options will involve assessment of the student's performance during the placement/internship/study exchange, and will require a reflective learning assessment in the shape of a written and oral presentation about the process undertaken.

To give shape, form and substance to the notion that the BA equips students with the type of skills employers recognise;
To help students in the BA Enhanced degree identify and articulate how their university studies are applicable to the professional landscape;
To improve and/or consolidate practical aspects of a student's BA studies (e.g. time management skills; problem-solving skills; collaborative and independent learning skills; strong communication skills);
To broaden students' perspectives about what further study or work opportunities are available after the completion of their Bachelor degree.

It is expected that on completion of this topic students will:

Demonstrate their knowledge of the professional and career landscape associated with success in the BA Enhanced program and the major(s) being undertaken;
Report on the workplace knowledge and experience gained;
Within the context of their major area(s) of study, compare and contrast learning in the classroom and learning in the workplace;
Identify the knowledge, skills and attitudes that potential employers may have of graduates of the BA Enhanced program;
List and explain their own career goals and expectations, and analyse how these have been influenced by the workplace knowledge and experience gained in undertaking the topic; and
Evaluate the relevance and significance of their major area(s) of study towards achieving their career goals and meeting their career expectations.
