Topic description

It's all in the ending... Love and Death have always been the heart and soul of literature, and Romance and Horror are two of the biggest selling commercial genres of the 20th and 21st centuries. In this topic we will explore the popular commercial genres of Romance and Horror from the perspective of writers, cultural theorists, and literary critics. We will explore generic conventions and relevant literary theory and criticism, while conducting close analysis of examples from literature and/or film, and producing writing.

  • Practice critical academic writing
  • Compose new works of creative writing
  • Explore the connections between scholarly research and creative praxis
