Topic description
This topic will build on research and writing skills acquired in SCME2060 and provide students with a greater understanding of how to take existing knowledge or research and adapt it for non-fiction stories on a range of screen mediums including television, online, museums, DVD for corporate and community exhibition.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • introduce students to adapting existing knowledge and research to non-fiction stories

  • introduce students to writing non-fiction stories for a range of screen formats

  • provide students with opportunities to identify and develop research and writing skills

  • instill in students the importance of research and writing in non-fiction story telling

  • enable students to develop and complete a short non-fiction story treatment and script from concept to working draft within a limited time

  • provide students with opportunities to collaborate creatively and problem solve with their peers

  • provide students with an opportunity to pitch their work to their peers
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • identify content and conceptual elements for research and writing of short non-fiction stories

  • evaluate and further develop research and writing skills for non-fiction screen stories

  • develop a concept and working synopsis, outline and treatment for a non-fiction screen story

  • present written work in a professional format

  • collaborate with peers in non-fiction story telling concept development

  • pitch a concept for a non-fiction screen production

  • demonstrate problem solving on a creative piece of work
