Topic description

This topic explores Australia's audio-visual mediascape including film, television, and interactive digital media. Across discreet units of study, issues of contemporary relevance and historic significance will be addressed. Issues of particular interest may include media regulation and reception, Indigenous film and media making, national media industry in a global context, finance and funding, questions of representation in fiction and non-fiction forms, Australian stories and content, and ethical practice in production.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Provide an understanding of Australian media in a global context
  • Explore timely topics in Australian media
  • Improve students' knowledge of media made by, for, or about, Indigenous Australians
  • Provide practice in critical reading, and media analysis
  • Develop students' ability to present their learning both orally and in writing
