Topic description

This topic enables students to undertake an organised study tour to an Australian location or series of locations to observe and participate in wine and spirit business operations and events. The details of individual Domestic Study Tour will vary depending on the destination, the timing, the host organisation(s), the number of students, etc. Students can enrol only when they have been accepted for a study tour.

Educational aims

This topic aims to support students as they:

  • Gain an appreciation of the range of similarities and differences across wine producing regions of Australia
  • Experience wine and spirits business from the practitioner’s perspective
  • Develop an understanding of the social, political, economic and cultural issues impacting on wine and spirits business across Australia
  • Develop the skills and knowledge needed to operate in both regionally and globally focused wine and spirits businesses
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Formulate questions to explore strategic and operational intentions and goals of practitioners
  2. Reflect on, interpret and analyse observations and experiences
  3. Defend conclusions concerning effective practice and opportunities for innovation, based on questioning of practitioners and reflections
