Topic description

In this topic emphasis is placed on extending further students' oral-aural comprehension, as well as their understanding and use of both spoken and written French.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Consolidate and expand students' knowledge of French grammatical structures and vocabulary acquired at previous levels
  • Further develop students' communicative competence through participation in activities involving group or pair interaction
  • Develop further students' proficiency in both written and spoken French on a range of socio-cultural topics at a generalist level
  • Develop further skills for basic textual analysis and literary readings in authentic French
  • Develop further listening skills through audio comprehensions
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Communicate in speech and writing on a range of familiar topics using grammatical, syntactical and phonetic structures acquired throughout the semester
  2. Read and discuss authentic written and oral texts of moderate difficulty
  3. Sustain a conversation on a range of sociocultural topics at a generalist level using appropriate structures and vocabulary
  4. Read and describe short literary texts written in authentic French
  5. Recognise and effectively discriminate sounds and speech patterns of moderate complexity
