Assumed knowledge
This topic requires student to have an introductory understanding of concepts and perspectives around disability and human service provision. Additional reading can be provided for students without previous participation in disability services or topics related to disability.

Topic description
This topic examines the role of direct service provision in the lives of people living with disability and their families. Community participation, education, health services and lifestyle choices provide the context for exploration of practices that support a quality life for people living with disability. Students undertake a placement within an organisation providing support to individuals living with disability and their families
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to learn about: Specialized competencies around service provision through working collaboratively with disability professionals to develop and maintain professional relationships with people living with disability, their support network and other professionals. The need for self reflection about services provided and basic research and critical analysis skills.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Identify, analyse and discuss key concepts included in relevant Government legislation around human services

  2. Evaluate the service delivery practices of their agency in line with relevant disability service standards

  3. Identify elements of effective practice and quality service delivery within the hot agency

  4. Interpret organizational policies

  5. Reflect on their professional development.
