Topic description

This topic will prepare students for their practical placement in the 3rd year of their degree.

It will introduce the professional behaviour for working in the Sport, Health and Physical Activity industry, including legal and ethical responsibilities.

Students will be introduced to the expectations for their behaviour and learning during their practical placement and will complete the PrePlace online program in preparation for their placement. This lecture series is an essential pre-requisite for placements in Sport, Health and Physical Activity settings.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce the practical placement program, it's requirements and expectations
  • Explain the professional expectations of the Sport, Health and Physical Activity industry, including legal and ethical responsibilities
  • Support the transitioning from student to sport, health and physical activity professionals
  • Establish understandings that will lead to successful placement experiences
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of the practical placement program and its requirements
  2. Demonstrate recognition of the legal and ethical responsibilities they will assume as they enter the sport, health and physical activity profession
  3. Demonstrate understanding of the transition from the role of student to that of a sport, health and physical activity professional
