Topic description
This topic is concerned with the basics of three dimensional design. Through manipulating appropriate materials into object form with growing skill, inventivity and sensibility, the student should develop a growing coherence of intention. It also includes a component of working from the model and a study of the work of Rodin, Brancusi, Gabo, Moore, Calder and other 20th Century sculptors.
Educational aims
For students to:

  • explore the medium of clay

  • gain an understanding of three-dimensional art

  • be introduced to a history of sculpture and the work of several modern sculptors
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate:

  • an understanding of the technical aspects of three-dimensional work

  • their ability to work from 'life'

  • an understanding of the development of modern sculpture
