Topic description
This topic explores physical activity behaviour and its association with various dimensions of health. Students will be involved in physical activity measurement, evaluation and research.
Educational aims
Students will be provided with the opportunity to:

  • explore physical activity behaviour using a behavioural epidemiological framework

  • develop skills in physical activity data collection and analysis

  • develop literature search, review and critique skills

  • participate in physical activities designed to promote lifelong participation in physical activity
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will:

  • explain the associations between physical activity and health

  • competently use and analyse data collected from physical activity measures including heart rate monitors and pedometers

  • describe the correlates and barriers associated with physical activity participation

  • review, critique and design physical activity interventions

  • describe the nature of evidence, and locate and review relevant research literature
