his topic assumes completion of an Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts. Students will be expected to be familiar with the practice and theory of the studio in which they complete their study

Topic description
This topic forms part of the core studio work for students in the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts). This topic is a conceptual research topic, designed to prepare students to produce their own body of work in their chosen studio
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to synthesise research into practice

  • Develop students skills in producing an extended, coherent body of work in their chosen studio

  • Allow students to develop skills in the critical evaluation of theirs and others’ creative work
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Produce conceptual research in preparation for undertaking creative work

  • Produce and resolve a coherent body of work

  • Maintain a reflective journal showing exercises, notes and sketches, research and development of personal and technical ideas

  • Critically analyse and evaluate their work, engage in critical discussion with their peers using appropriate terminology and locate their practice within the context of contemporary art practice.

  • Produce an artist statement reflecting the concepts and outcomes of the body of work
