This topic allows students to conduct a directed reading and viewing project in a particular area of screen production, screen history, media technologies, or screen theory. Students will require the supervision of a Screen staff member to formulate a specific program of study, including a list of films, television and/or digital media to be viewed, and readings to be consulted. The topic will ideally suit a student who has already developed a clearly defined research interest.

This topic aims to:

Introduce students to a comprehensive body of works within a specific area of screen history, criticism or theory
Advance students' comprehension of the historical, theoretical and critical debates pertinent to their chosen area of inquiry
Develop students' abilities to undertake independent research

On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

Demonstrate a detailed knowledge of the media productions in their chosen area of study

Analyse the various discursive practices involved in the production of a body of screen work, as well as the critical and theoretical debates associated with them

Independently pursue to completion a planned course of study
