Bachelor of Social Work

Working with Children and Families contains three 'strands' of knowledge transfer. Firstly, policy and sociological contexts of working with children and families are explored. Secondly the complexities of working with families and children are considered in light of differing practice contexts such as statutory and non statutory work. Finally, some of the specific therapeutic models for working effectively with families and children are explored and analysed.

The aim of this topic is to provide students with the opportunity to explore and analyse theoretical approaches to working with families and children to prepare them for practice with families and children.

Students successfully completing this topic will be able to:

Define the policy and sociological contexts in which families and children are immersed.
Name and analyse some of the complexities in working in a range of settings including statutory and non statutory work.
Name and apply therapeutic theoretical models to practice situations involving families and children.
