Assumed knowledge
A sound understanding of accounting and financial reporting regulation and practice as well as the theory and practical application of fundamental concepts used in business finance.
Assessment
Assignments, tests and exam will ensure students can demonstrate a sufficient knowledge and understanding of financial statement analysis concepts and demonstrate an application of that knowledge.
Topic description

This topic will provide students with a framework for using financial statement data in a range of business analysis and valuation contexts. Upon completion of this topic, students will develop the knowledge required to undertake business strategy analysis, accounting analysis, financial analysis and prospective analysis as well as a range of business analysis and valuation applications.

This topic aims to:

  • Develop an understanding of competitive and corporate strategy analysis
  • Identify factors influencing accounting quality and distortions in accounting data
  • Discuss and apply the recasting of financial statements
  • Develop an understanding of financial analysis, including ratio and cash flow analysis
