SOAD3102 Field Education 1

Field education enables students to integrate classroom learning with professional practice so that students notice and refine their ways of thinking, doing and being. This topic provides students with the opportunity to observe social work in action and apply social work knowledge and practice skills. Students will be supported to make sense of what it means to be a social worker by developing their professional identity, integrity and practice frameworks.

This topic aims to:

• Integrate students’ classroom learning with professional practice
• Develop students’ knowledge and skills in working with individuals, families, groups, organisations and communities
• Develop students’ professional identity, integrity and practice frameworks

1. Demonstrate beginning level capabilities in social work practice
2. Articulate and apply social work theories, knowledge, skills and values in the practice setting
3. Critically reflect on your own learning and developing practice
4. Engage individuals, groups and communities in purposeful, constructive and respectful relationships
5. Communicate clearly and appropriately for a range of purposes and audiences
6. Evaluate the organisational, legal, social and political contexts of policy and practice
