Topic description

This topic gives an overview of the Biblical Wisdom writings. Interpretation draws upon a range methodological approaches, with a particular focus on key theological scenes throughout these writings. Relevance of these theologies to contemporary understanding of the world and society are explored.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Offer an overview of the concept of biblical wisdom and the wisdom writings
  • Gain a knowledge and understanding of the content of the wisdom writings and their historical and cultural settings
  • Gain an understanding of the forms and literary features of the wisdom writings
  • Explore the main theological themes in the wisdom writings
  • Develop critical approaches to the study of the wisdom writings
  • Allow the wisdom writings to offer meaning in a contemporary context
