Topic description
This topic will evaluate the availability, use, and implications of population based digital data. We will consider the availability of data collected routinely from smart phones and public surveillance systems, and investigate the growth of ‘smart cities’.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- Introduce students to the collection and utilisation of population based digital data
- Explore the concepts behind smart cities and the uses of the data that can be collected
- Apply population-based information to population health problems
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to able to:
- Demonstrate innovative thinking in the utilisation of population data to solve a health problem
- Apply appropriate data analysis techniques to population data to address a health issue
- Demonstrate a coherent understanding of the principles of population-based data collection
- Apply a knowledge of population-based data to Smart City design
- Plan a population-based intervention based on population data
