Topic description
This topic aims to broaden students’ knowledge, skills and abilities through a placement in a creative enterprise setting. The placement comprises a minimum of 80 hours within a professional workplace and is designed to help students become more fully prepared for a career in the cultural sector. Students are placed according to availability and suitability or they may source their own placement in which support is provided. Students are prepared for their placement before entering into a placement agreement with a host organisation, and this helps guide the work integrated learning experience in which they are supervised and assessed.
Educational aims
To have students be ready to enter the creative industries workforce with the skills, capabilities and knowledge basis to recognise extant, new and emerging opportunities in the field of culture, creative industries and enterprise and to develop experience with the practical realities and environment of creative labour and skills.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Develop, monitor and assess individual career goals to enable you to enhance their skills and competencies through observation, discussion and practice in a real-world creative enterprise setting
  2. Reflect upon their learning from the studies they have undertaken to date and apply discipline-specific knowledge and skills to a professional workplace environment
  3. Communicate effectively and appropriately with peers, industry professionals and supervisors in high quality verbal and written forms
  4. Report on work experiences drawing on concepts and frameworks developed over time
  5. Demonstrate professional and ethical engagement in a diverse, workplace setting.
