Topic description

This topic provides opportunities for students to extend their experience working alongside professionals in the field to build upon awareness and professional competencies gained from previous paid or practicum experience. Examination of the role of service provision in the lives of people living with disability and their families continues. Community, education, health and lifestyle provide the context for exploration of practices that support a life of choice for people living with disability with a focus on individual supports and relationships. Students from the Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education enrolled in this topic will be commencing their third Practicum placement.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Provide opportunities to be mentored by professionals who will create opportunities to work autonomously and within teams
  • Understand and increase professional competencies
  • Develop and evaluate programs/projects and gain expertise around case management for people living with disability
  • Work collaboratively with a range of professionals to implement and evaluate a task or project
  • Identify effective strategies and practices associated with quality service delivery
  • Contribute to quality service delivery by working effectively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrate an ability to use a systematic approach to case management
  • Demonstrate Professional Practice within a disability organisation
