Topic description
Hours are flexible but a minimum of 120 hours per semester is required for credit. This topic allows students to gain work experience in the creative arts industries by taking up a project or position with an industry partner, or by conceiving and producing a creative project to a professional level.

Note: Enrolment in this topic is restricted to Third Year Creative Arts students and requires the approval of both the Course Coordinator of the Bachelor of Creative Arts and an academic member from the Creative Writing, Digital Media, Screen Production or Drama Centre programs.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • provide students with work experience, contacts in the industry, exposure to current practices in the production and management of projects in the creative industries

  • assist students in identifying a career path and beginning the transition from study to employment

  • produce a significant creative work to a professional standard
Expected learning outcomes
As placements are individual, there is no singular set of learning outcomes but each student negotiates a set of goals with the Project or Industry Supervisor at the start of the placement. In the end of semester evaluation, each student reflects on these initial goals when summing up the learning that has been achieved and the benefits gained.

However, it is expected that students will have:

  • learnt how the workplace operates, how they can best contribute to the working environment, and also gain a realistic sense of the path ahead if they choose a career in this field

  • planned and produced a major creative work in creative writing, drama, digital media or screen production, and be able to demonstrate an analytical understanding of its potential industrial context and process of construction
