Online tasks related to preparation for placement.

This topic will prepare students for their first extended block of professional experience. Students will do 5 single day visits to work with their supervising teacher in preparation for a 6 -week block in semester two. The topic will prepare students for their third year professional experience in light of perspectives on contemporary Australian and international Early Childhood research and practice. It will introduce the legal, ethical and professional responsibilities students will be expected to execute on placement, as well as the communicative and technical research skills they will need to use when theorising and implementing their placement site’s inquiry focus.

The aims of this topic are to:

• ensure the students understand the legal and professional requirements of teachers and of them as pre-service teachers when they undertake professional experiences
• help the students plan for effective learning while undertaking professional experiences over a sustained period of time (6 weeks)
• ensure that the students understand how to make an effective contribution to children’s’ learning through a curriculum inquiry

On completion of this topic students will be able to:

• demonstrate awareness of the relationships and skills that will contribute to successful professional experiences
• assume responsibility for working with and teaching groups of children within the early childhood setting and with the guidance of a registered teacher
• plan for, prepare for and manage learning experiences for young children with the support and guidance of the mentor
• recognise the legal and ethical responsibilities they will assume as they enter the teaching profession
• develop a research inquiry that will effectively contribute to young children’s learning over time
