Topic description
An industry focused capstone project simulating a real context to provide students with an experience of the multi-disciplinary nature of design and business problem solving. The project will be developed in conjunction with selected professionals and/or a client who presents a current business problem. This will require the application of innovative design, manufacturing and business model techniques in a consulting framework integrating topics studied throughout the course.
Educational aims
The topic will be delivered in conjunction with the New Venture Institute (NVI) and students will work in teams along with industry professionals and project managers, mentors and advisors. This will provide students with reality driven rigour, delivering an industry client focused “real world” experience.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Apply appropriate techniques and tools in the development of a design
  2. Work as a member of a team to design a product or process
  3. Have a better appreciation of the application of design techniques
