Topic description
Students will gain skills in analysing and presenting research findings in a scientific manner and using evidence based practice in their clinical work. Students will either, (1) work on a small research project under supervision, or (2) work independently and in small groups to develop the research skills necessary for engaging in evidence-based practice.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:
- Develop students' skills in the selection of statistical analyses, and quantitative and qualitative interpretation of data
- Give students the opportunity to gain skills in reporting research findings in a scientific format
- Provide students with the skills to critically analyse research to support evidence based practice
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:
- Formulate a testable research/clinical question
- Collect and analyse data (e.g. conduct a literature search or collect research data) related to the research/clinical question
- Interpret and draw appropriate conclusions for the results
- Critically analyse research to support evidence based practice
- Report the outcomes in a scientific manner
