Topic description

Students will undertake set readings; contribute to class discussions; identify available teaching resources and classroom/school practices; and work collaboratively to critically analyse case-studies related to the social and emotional determinants of positive mental health and wellbeing that impact upon diverse school communities.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Foster enquiry as an essential educational practice
  • Develop students' knowledge, confidence and courage to intervene to enhance the ability of school communities to promote social and emotional wellbeing in diverse school contexts
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Undertake informed identification of social and emotional determinants of wellbeing in diverse school contexts
  2. Work collaboratively with professional colleagues, parents and students to optimise social and emotional wellbeing in school communities
  3. Select and/or design of appropriate resources and intervention strategies for promoting social and emotional wellbeing in diverse school contexts
  4. Critically analyse, through reading, discussion and writing, ways in which structural, societal and individual factors impact upon the social and emotional wellbeing of members of school communities
