THEO7002B Honours Thesis (9/18 units)

This topic is taught and assessed as a continuum.

A thesis of not more than 20,000 words. The thesis may be a critical survey of existing knowledge or an original contribution to the subject. In either case it should demonstrate the student's ability to collect and evaluate information; to test and defend an argument or thesis; and to examine critically the major theories in the area of enquiry.

This topic aims to provide training in a manner that fosters the development of a candidate's independent research skills, and to develop the attributes associated with research practice.

1. Locate and make appropriate use of relevant source materials
2. Analyse sources, develop arguments and draw conclusions
3. Contribute to knowledge through independent research
4. Exercise scholarly judgement
5. Present clearly a scholarly thesis (including definition of questions, organisation of material, clarity of writing style)
6. Select and justify appropriate methodology
