Topic description
HLTH7013 Research Methods 1 and HLTH7014 Research Methods 2 are partner topics. Together, these topics deal with several domains of knowledge and skills that are essential for researchers and practitioners. These are: ethics; research proposals; research design and data analysis; the link between research and clinical practice; and communication skills
Educational aims
This topic helps to prepare graduates with the research and data analysis skills needed to successfully complete their Honours thesis and aims to:

  • Provide knowledge in ethics, research design and methodology

  • Provide students with experience designing research.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of the topic, students will be expected to be able to:

  1. Justify the significance of their chosen research specialisation

  2. Rationalise different research designs

  3. Formulate their own research proposal

  4. Construct an ethics application for health-related research

  5. Effectively communicate research plans in written/oral format(s)
