Topic description
  1. Free Vibration
  2. Response to Harmonic Excitation
  3. Multiple Degree-of-Freedom Systems
  4. Distributed Parameter Systems
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with an understanding of vibration analysis techniques as applied to structures and machines.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Understand the principles of vibration and their importance to structural design
  2. Calculate the vibration response of structures that are subjected to harmonic excitation
  3. Design systems to suppress vibration in structures
  4. Analysis the vibration modes and natural frequencies of a structure
