Topic description

This topic explores key theoretical and practical approaches to occupational therapy practice. Students develop foundational skills in occupational therapy practice by understanding and applying The Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF).

Educational aims

This topic aims to introduce students to the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key theoretical approaches to practice. Students will develop foundational skills in occupational therapy practice.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Analyse and apply the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework and key occupational therapy practice models to a range of clinical areas at a beginning level
  2. Analyse and integrate selected occupational therapy evaluation and intervention skills at a beginning level
  3. Examine occupational therapy case scenarios and apply skills in activity and occupational analysis
  4. Integrate therapeutic communication skills into specific aspects of case scenarios
  5. Apply emerging reflective practice skills to analyse and consider client/consumer needs
  6. Explain the importance of practicing in a culturally responsive and culturally safe manner
  7. Show an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ experiences of health, wellbeing and occupation
