This topic builds on the clinical foundation themes of topics REMH8006 Remote Advanced Nursing Practice & Pharmacotherapeutics and REMH8021 Chronic Disease in Remote and Indigenous Primary Health Care. Students continue expanding knowledge of remote advanced nursing practice for remote and Indigenous people, at critical points in the lifespan. Physical and psycho-social issues are considered, including wellness and prevention, acute and unstable conditions, and long term health problems. Students develop knowledge and skills to support Primary Health Care interventions and clinical procedures within the broad scope of family practice. Within the unique environmental and cultural context of Remote Health, students apply the principles of the RAN model of consultation for comprehensive health assessment, cross cultural communication, distance consultations and referrals. There is an emphasis placed on social determinants of health while applying internationally benchmarked population health approaches.
This topic builds on the objectives of REMH8006 and further develops clinical reasoning and consolidation of clinical practice. This topic aims for nurses to apply a framework for advanced practice to confidently and competently work in collaboration with clients across the lifespan in remote and Indigenous Primary Health Care settings.
