Topic description

Search strategies to optimise identification of information and technology; refining the ability to critique these and apply to therapeutic situations. Development of skills in conducting detailed literature reviews, designing research projects for specific questions. Development of practical skills related to information and technology in occupational therapy including: developing surveys, conducting needs analysis, application of apps in therapy, use of assistive technology, application of telehealth.

Educational aims

This topic aims to extend students' ability to identify, analyse and apply information and technology relevant to occupational therapy practice.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Effectively and efficiently locate relevant information for occupational therapy practice
  2. Analyse information gathered for use in therapy
  3. Develop robust survey instruments
  4. Conduct a needs analysis
  5. Describe appropriate research designs for specific research questions relevant to occupational therapy
  6. Locate, critique and apply technology in therapy including the use of apps, telehealth and assistive technology
