Topic description
3D Media Studio provides flexibility across a range of interests and abilities within industry standards. This topic provides students with access to at least 6 modules that comprise the suite of 3D topics. Modules that have been completed previously cannot be taken again.

Groups of modules are linked to form core competencies in the industry themes: games, animation and visual effects. Students will be able to select tasks, including advanced tasks, as appropriate to their skill level. Each linked core module set leads to a major project submission. Students will choose at least 6 linked modules and a major project. Half of the topic assessment will be associated with skills acquisition gained by completing the 6 modules, and half to application of those skills in a major project submission.
Educational aims

This topic aims to allow students to:

  • understand fundamental concepts of modelling for 3D games, animation and visual effects as it applies to industry standards, including understanding industry vocabulary

  • develop their communication skills, with particular reference to communicating their own creative ideas

  • develop specialist 3D skills, in connection with another area of study
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to demonstrate:

  • familiarity with a range of concepts in one or more steams of 3D media production

  • the ability to communicate creative and technical concepts related to 3D media to peers, and a broader audience

  • the ability to apply 3D media techniques to another area of study
