Topic description

This topic introduces the key software and techniques used in the VFX production pipeline: Nuke, Houdini, Maya, 3D Equaliser, PF Track and Bluescreen. Students will familiarise themselves with the features of each type of software or technique and how it is used in the VFX pipeline.

This topic aims to provide students with:

  • A practical overview of the key software, such as Maya and Nuke, and techniques used in the VFX production pipeline
  • An understanding of industry best practice in the use of software used in VFX production
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the key software and techniques used in the VFX production pipeline
  • An understanding of how a range of key software packages are incorporated in each stage of the VFX p
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the key software, such as Maya and Nuke, and techniques used in the VFX production pipeline, including their key features and operation
  2. Demonstrate a practical understanding of how to use the key software and techniques used in the VFX production pipeline
  3. Demonstrate their competency in using the key software and techniques used in the VFX production pipeline by completing a series of short exercises using the key software and techniques
