Topic description
This topic provides students with the skills required of an entry level lawyer in transactional legal practice, incorporating commercial and corporate, property and succession and estates practice.

Competence in these skills is required for admission as a legal practitioner.
Educational aims
This topic aims to enable students to achieve competence, to the standard required by the admitting authorities, in the transactional areas of legal practice including:

  • commercial and corporate practice

  • property practice

  • succession and estates practice
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of the topic students will be able to demonstrate the competence required of an entry level legal practitioner in:

  • conducting a commercial transaction

  • setting up standard commercial structures

  • dealing with loans and securities

  • transferring title

  • creating leases

  • creating and releasing securities

  • advising on land use

  • drafting wills

  • administering deceased estates

  • taking action to resolve wills and estates problems

  • advising on revenue law and practice in relation to commercial and other property transactions

  • drafting documents related to transactional practice

  • acting ethically in relation to all of the above
