Topic content includes: the principles of teaching and learning across the life span, the interaction of the family/significant others and the community in the management of clients with diabetes, the principles of health promotion and primary healthcare, group dynamics, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills, the role of the diabetes educator, the resources available to the diabetes educator and client, professional diabetes organisations, planning, conducting and evaluating diabetes programs, teaching clients with special needs, diabetes in pregnancy and cultural awareness. On completion, it is expected that this topic will enable students to begin teaching clients and their families how to manage diabetes related health issues.
