Educational aims

This topic aims to provide students with an understanding of the mechanical behaviour, characteristics and failure analysis of engineering materials.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Understand the structures, classifications, and applications of various engineering materials
  2. Understand and apply the structure-and-properties relationships of various engineering materials
  3. Understand the different properties of various engineering materials
  4. Analyse mechanical behaviours in engineering materials to predict their performances when used for machines, vehicles, and structures
  5. Practise mechanical characterisations of various engineering materials and able to complete individual technical reports professionally based on the practise
