Topic description

This topic will provide students with an understanding of the general physiological principles that underpin most disease processes and a more detailed background in a range of specific human diseases. In each case, the pathophysiology will be highlighted.

Educational aims

Students will be able to integrate and transmit their knowledge and understanding of the general physiological principles that underpin most disease processes and apply their detailed knowledge in a range of specific human diseases.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Apply your broad knowledge of normal human physiology to pathophysiological processes
  2. Describe comprehensively the adaptive and maladaptive physiological responses in disease processes
  3. Explain in logical and consistent detail the pathophysiological process of how a disease leads to specific symptoms
  4. Conduct an extensive search of scientific literatures and identify credible information relevant to diseases
