This topic provides an opportunity to undertake independent scientific research or a practice-related project, with a focus on health care practices relevant to the extended scope of practice paramedic. The topic is designed to develop students' skills in research planning, methodology, evaluation and dissemination of project findings through an in-depth study of an area of personal professional interest. The project work shall demonstrate a substantial analysis of a problem identified in practice and a thorough understanding of the research methodology employed. The work is to be reported in a dissertation and an oral presentation.
The topic aims to provide students with the skills necessary to produce evidence that may inform clinical practice. It will provide students with an opportunity to plan and implement an independent research project in the area of interest to the student's own practice. Students will explore the principles of scientific research design, ethics and data analysis. The topic will assist students in interpreting findings of their research, and developing skills and application in scientific writing and presentation.
