DVST9031 Gender Analysis

This topic will consider the key concepts, frameworks, approaches and tools used by practitioners to undertake gender analysis within international agencies, non-government organisations, government agencies and community based organisations. Students will investigate these different ways of undertaking gender analysis in order to develop their critical understanding of doing gender analysis. Opportunities will be provided for students to develop their own gender analysis skills through the application of selected approaches and tools to policy, planning, project and budget related case studies from Australia and other countries.

This topic aims to:

• Consider the key concepts, frameworks, approaches and tools available for by practitioners to undertake gender analysis within international agencies, non-government organisations, government agencies and community based organisations
• Investigate different ways of undertaking gender analysis in order for students to develop a critical understanding of 'doing' gender analysis
• Provide opportunities for students to develop their own gender analysis skills through the application of selected approaches and tools to policy, planning, project and budget related case studies from Australia and other countries

2. Critically analyse the key concepts, frameworks, approaches and tools available to practitioners to undertake gender analysis
3. Identify appropriate gender analysis approaches and tools for application in particular contexts and circumstances
4. Apply and critique selected gender analysis approaches and tools to case studies
