Topic description
This topic requires students to demonstrate the applied research skills they have learnt. To demonstrate these skills, students will design and undertake an applied professional research project in public administration. Students will undertake project design, professional writing, academic conventions, data management, data sets, presentation skills and appropriate research and data analysis methods. Students will be assessed on a final project by a combination of oral presentation and written project materials.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

demonstrate the acquisition and development of skills first established within the coursework components of the Master of Public Administration (online pathway) through the completion of an applied research project.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an integrated and advanced understanding of a relevant body of knowledge in the field of public administration and/or public policy;
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of relevant contemporary trends and developments in public policy, public administration or public management;
  3. Develop an ability to critically analyse, reflect on and synthesise complex information, concepts and theories;
  4. Demonstrate an ability to research and apply established theories to a body of knowledge or practice;
  5. Demonstrate an ability to demonstrate a broad range of skills needed to tackle problems and challenges in public administration and/or public policy; and
  6. Develop an ability to interpret and transmit knowledge, skills and ideas to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
