Topic description

This topic will introduce students to the principles of scholarship of teaching and learning in the Health professions. It will provide a foundation in research methodology knowledge and skills, including critical evaluation of the literature.

The topic will allow students to understand the range of research methods available and explore the process of designing a research project related to their own discipline.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to the principles of scholarship of teaching and learning, particularly in the Health professions
  • Provide students with an understanding of the principles of research design
  • Introduce students to research methodology, including quantitative and qualitative approaches
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Understand the role of scholarship of teaching and learning as applied to the health professions
  2. Identify and apply appropriate research design and methodology to the scholarship of teaching and learning
  3. Critically review and analyse research articles
  4. Develop a research proposal on teaching and learning in their discipline
