Topic description
Through an integrated approach this topic introduces an understanding of the role of creative expression in society. The themes of making and responding through various viewpoints are explored in relation to different cultural and vocational contexts. Students apply and critique a variety of teaching methodologies and resources as they develop necessary practical skills for teaching in the five arts subjects of the Australian Curriculum. This topic gives students the opportunity to plan and prepare for a public performance for school children supported by artists and teachers.
Educational aims
That pre-service teachers:

  • will develop an in-depth understanding of the role of the arts in a global society

  • will be able to apply current research findings in a variety of relevant and innovative arts teaching methodologies and resources

  • develop the ability to use inclusive teaching practices when planning for teaching and learning in the arts
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate creative application of resources, methodology and skills for teaching the arts.

  • Apply a body of knowledge that includes understanding and critical analysis of recent developments in arts education.

  • Integrate cognitive, technical and creative skills in all 5 arts subjects to create a public performance and justify its appropriateness for a primary school audience
