Assumed knowledge
Students are expected to have a basic understanding of clinical and counselling methods, including cognitive behaviour therapy approaches, familiarity with child and adult diagnostic and classification systems, and familiarity with professional and ethical issues relevant to the practice of clinical psychology.

Placement
Topic description
Students will work as provisional psychologists as part of this placement with an emphasis on clinical skill development (assessment and therapy).
Educational aims
The primary aim of the topic is to equip students in the skills of cognitive-behaviour therapy and other evidence-based therapies, as well as to develop skills in assessment practices.
Expected learning outcomes
Depending on this final placement, on successful completion of this topic, students will be expected to able to:

  1. Understand how to work from a scientist-practitioner framework
  2. Effectively use case conceptualisation to guide therapeutic practice
  3. Develop appropriate assessment and/or therapy interventions for relevant clinical groups (both child and adults)
  4. Develop an understanding of the role of the psychologist in clinical service settings
  5. Work effectively in clinical teams and with clinicians from other discipline backgrounds (where applicable)
  6. Develop an understanding of the ethical and professional issues associated with the practice of clinical psychology.
